If there is no wind and rain, there’s no golf

For the 139th time the annual British Open starts at St Andrews this week. With rain falling in buckets and wind enough to turn an umbrella inside out, the weather is, as usual, perfect. The Open would not be the Open if there was no wind and rain and this year is no different.
Watching the golfers do their practice runs one would think it was winter in the rain forest, but this is why this Open has always been such a challenge.
But if you are not in Scotland to watch the Open, there is no need to be outside in the wind and rain. This is Scotland, home to castles and stately manors, most of which are fully or partially open to the public. If castle tours are not your thing, you can cozy up to a roaring fire in any number of local pubs and restaurants, and even have a hot toddy to keep you fortified against the elements.
If you are thinking of traveling around Scotland, why not check the road and weather conditions before you go, you may find a spot of sun and some great sightseeing along an unbeaten path.
